What are POP3 Mail boxes?
POP3 mail boxes are the technical term for
'normal' email accounts. They are different to many 'free' email accounts (such
as Hotmail, Yahoo etc) because you can access a POP3 mail box using all the standard email programs (e.g. Outlook,
Netscape, Eudora etc). With our POP3 accounts you can also access your email any
where, any time via our WebMail system. Back to top

How
do I configure my email program to access my POP box?
Listed below are the two most popular email programs:
Microsoft Outlook:
Click here for a very detailed version of the following
summary
From the Tools menu, select Accounts and click
the Mail tab, followed by Properties button, then the Servers tab. Change the
'Incoming Mail POP3' setting to be mail.1stclasspost.com. Change the Incoming Mail Server
Account Name to the full email address e.g. john.smith@1stclasspost.com. Then set the Password to
the value used in creating the POP box. There is normally no need to change the Outgoing Mail SMTP server settings -
these should remain as previously set for your ISP. However if this doesn't
work Click
here for how to send emails from 1st Class Post.
Netscape Messenger: Choose Preferences from the Edit menu.
Select Mail servers and click Edit. Change the 'Server name' setting to be mail.1stclasspost.com. Change the User Name to
the full email address e.g. john.smith@1stclasspost.com (depending upon your
version of Netscape you may need to use a '\' instead of the the '@'). There is
normally no need to change the Outgoing Mail SMTP server settings -
these should remain as previously set for your ISP. However if this doesn't
work Click
here for how to send emails from 1st Class Post.

Why can't I access my new
address via Outlook?
First try to access your email account via our
Webmail
service (remember to use your whole email address eg
fred@flintstone.com as your login). If
this works then there is no issue at this end and most likely it is an issue
with your configuration of Outlook.

other than a-z and 0-9 then these are replaced by a hyphen(-). The details you will need for

How much email can I receive?
Our Enhanced or Super Mailboxs provides 1000MB for your messages
or a maximum of 5000 messages awaiting collection at any one time. A Base
POP3 Mailbox is limited to a maximum of 500 messages consuming no more than 50MB
of disk space awaiting collection at any one time. An individual email may not
be over 5MB in size. Because our POP3 servers are mail collection servers (not
permanent mail stores) we also automatically remove email which is over 90 days
old. Please note that these limits are on a per-mailbox basis. We can provide
larger quotas please contact us for details.
